Only two games were completed last night when the Barbados Road Tennis Open 2024 continued at Dover Christ Church.
That’s because for the third night at Dover rains interfered with the scheduled matches, much to the disgust of the organisers, players and fans.
However, in the hour of play that was possible, Dario Hinds comfortably defeated Terry Smith, 21-16, 21-9.
In the next match-up Davien “Force-Ripe” Taylor had to dig deep to beat Seth Best after losing the first game 21-18.
But as the night went on Taylor who appeared rusty and short of competition got better and found his touch, reeling off some delightful shots as he rebounded to take the second game 21-18.
The deciding game was never in doubt as Taylor led from start to finish to secure the set 21-12.
In the end Taylor defeated Best, 18-21, 21-18, 21-12, to book his place in the round of 32.
Julian “Michael Jackson” White was ahead in the next match-up of the night against Shamon Weekes when the rains came at 7:35 pm.
White won a keenly contested first game 21-18, after Weekes had led almost throughout and appeared booked for victory.
In the second game White was again ahead 11-7, when the rains arrived and ended proceedings for the night.
It’s understood that both players have agreed to finish that match-up at Belfield on Saturday night, ahead of the start of the round of 32 at that venue in the BRTO Open 2024.
At Belfield the ladies will get their first taste of action, as well as defending BRTO men’s champion Mark “Venom” Griffith who opposes Corey Mayers.
After Belfield on Saturday night the action in the BRTO switches to Silver Hill on Sunday night.
Eight matches are carded for both nights at Belfield and Silver Hill this weekend.
